At Bay ROUGH EDIT Preliminary Task 2

Image
Teacher Feedback: Should have a sound bleed into the black screen with credits. A bit disjointed. Opening credits could be less distracting other than in the middle of the screen. Music at the beginning could help set the tone. Sound as the door opens as a revelation moment? Music drops out and can be used to help build suspense. Broken cup scene needs a bit of sound "scary moment".

Opening Sequences Part 2

Question:  How is the sequence engaging and how does it conform to traditional thriller codes and conventions? The Bourne Identity (2002) The opening sequence to this film serves as an introduction to the character and his predicament, which is his amnesia.   This shot here is also an introduction. In this case it is to one of the symbolic colours in the film. It is blue and it symbolises the past Bourne is leaving behind. At this point however the audience does not know what has happened to him during his past. And neither does he.   The shots on the boat as it sways in the wind of the storm nod towards the uncertainty of the situation. As these shots are setting the scene they bear somewhat subtle links to the uncertainty Bourne is about to feel when he wakes up. This effect is magnified with the way the title card comes up on the screen. The letters begin mixed up which aligns with this idea of uncertainty, specifically around his identity. The cuts between sho...

Concept Preliminary Task 2

Film Title: At Bay We decided on this title because it was less generic than other options like 'Kidnapped' or 'Abducted'. At Bay means 'cornered' or 'captured'  which better suits Lily's predicament. It is not shown on screen but she is cornered by the Kidnapper and has to face him. Having a less typical title sets the film a bit apart. Target Audience: 16 and over. This is because of the dark, adult themes associated with women, particularly young girls being kidnapped. Conventions: Symbolism/Iconography: The setting of the home contrasts the crime that is about to be committed as a home is supposed to be a place of peace and happiness, not violence and crime. The clothing of the characters is also symbolic. The casual clothing of Lily shows her vulnerability, the kidnapper's dark clothes symbolise the darkness of his deeds and Ryle's business-like outfit shows his somewhat normal life that he now is losing because of Lily's disappear...

Props and Costumes Preliminary Task 2

Image
Props and Costumes: Phone: This will be used for two phone calls. One before the kidnapping between the husband and the wife and one after to show she's been kidnapped. Car: This will be used to show the husband arriving home to the house where the wife is no longer there. Kitchen equipment (Tea-cup, kitchen knife): This will be used to show the wife living her normal life and have a false sense of security before the kidnapping. The use of the knife in the normal setting hints to the impending act of violence. Costumes:   Kidnapper:   He will be wearing fully dark clothes to match his dark intentions and also the practicality of not being seen before he reveals himself. He will mainly be seen only as a shadow and so this outfit will be an accessory. Lily (Wife):   Since she is at home she will be in casual clothing - a jumper and sweatpants to give that false sense of security I mentioned, Ryle (Husband):   He will be in a casual suit as he c...
